This unique little pot was thrown on the wheel, then, having been left to dry for several days, it was skilfully carved by hand to give it a rock-like appearance.
The piece has been fired to 1250 degrees centigrade with wood and charcoal. The crawl glaze has trapped carbon from the atmosphere in the kiln, creating interesting black, grey, white and gold patterns, while the surface of the bare clay has a lovely coppery-bronze colour with a slightly lustrous quality. Inside the shino glaze is a light orange colour with a beautiful orange-peel texture.
The pot measures appox 2.5 inches tall by 2.75 inches across the base. It is completely food-safe, so could be used as a mustard pot or something similar.
It carries Mark Smalley's personal seal to the underside.
Postage and packing is £3.00 for second-class recorded delivery within the UK.
