This cup and saucer is made from papier mache, and decorated with individually cut petal shapes decoupaged in overlapping layers, and then images taken from 1950's furnishing fabrics have been added inside and outside the cup. The paper has been taken from pages from the wonderful Selvedge magazine (well read) and an old encyclopedia. This has then been finished with a final layer of typical 50's motifs of stylized plants and abstract linear figures, making this a truly unique piece.
Inspired by the fact that I love my cups of tea, I wanted to make something that is a reminder of the lovely comfort of tea and a hark back to those nostalgic times when life was simpler. This is the third cup and saucer in a series.
This is one off piece and has been protected with several layers of satin finish varnish. It is signed on the bottom of the saucer.
The saucer measures 14cm across and the cup stands about 5cm high.
