Full description

Unique hair stick which has been hand carved by me from a piece of Rowan. The stick has been sanded extensively to a smooth finish and then treated with Tung Oil to protect the wood. The stick is extremely light but strong with a natural curve to it. I have topped the stick with a simple red/brown wooden bead and two tiny Hematite beads. Hematite is believed to be grounding and balancing, allowing one to release negativity.

Burned into the top of the stick is the Ogham symbol for Rowan and the double spiral being a sign of balance and also representative of the equinoxes.

Current understanding is that the names of the main twenty letters of Ogham are also the names of 20 trees sacred to the druids and is often referred to as the "Celtic Tree Alphabet".

The rowan has long been honored by the Celts for its balance of beauty and hardiness.

The wood of the rowan is traditionally used for divination tools and objects such as runes and wands. Rowan branches are the prime choice for divining rods, and druids also crafted rowan wood into staffs.

The druids maintained the rowan as a sacred container for protective energy and it is revered as a protective symbol.

At the base of each berry is a tiny five-pointed star, an ancient symbol of protection, which lends further merit to the protective qualities of the rowan tree. These berries attract all kinds of songbirds and the Celts interpreted this as a positive omen - a blessing of goodwill, honor and peace.

Total length 7.25 inches. Usable length 6.5 inches.

Free postage to UK buyers.
