Full description
Beautiful hand carved Hawthorn hair stick with a gentle curve. I have carved this stick myself and sanded it to a lovely smooth finish. It has been treated with pure Tung Oil to protect the wood. I have topped the stick with a pretty lampwork bead which compliments its natural appearance and then added a removable tree of life charm.
The Hawthorn is a tree/shrub full of contradictions.
In May, the Hawthorn is in its glory with strikingly beautiful blossoms. These are nestled tightly among the Hawthorn's large and lethal looking thorns. Here we see the first of several contradictions, giving it its colourful reputation in history.
The Hawthorn is imbued with male energy, yet it is historically a symbol of fertility and associated with the female goddess aspects (mother, maiden,).
The hawthorn is a standing testament to the idea of duality; it is a perfect depiction of the concept of yin and yang.
The Celts understood the power of balance. They also knew that what could not be attributed to specific outcomes (as sometimes evident in the dance of contradictions) indicated a great source of magic, that which cannot be explained contains immense power.
The hawthorn is to be respected in all its diversity and duality. It is a symbol of union of opposites, and serves as a message for us to be more accepting of the unconventional.
Of old, the tree was regarded as a powerful symbol of protection, and was often planted near a house to protect it against lightning and damage from storms. It was also believed that the Hawthorn, as a guardian to the entrances of the "Otherworlds", protected a house against evil spirits.
The Tree of Life meaning as perceived in different faiths, belief systems and cultures, resonates with a simple and strong message of unity. The Tree of Life symbol indicates that all forms of life are connected through a cosmic energy and that we as humans should live in harmony with all living beings.
