Full description

My ACEO is a small piece of original textile artwork measuring just 3.5" x 2.5".

I have always loved the wonderful structures and patterns created when flowers are over and the seed heads appear. I have also wanted to try working with a limited pallet of colours so ‘Abstract Seed Heads’ is my first attempt at combining this method and subject matter.

It has been created by means of free-motion machine stitching using two shades of green, two shades of pink and black. I have embroidered onto calico which I have painted first with acrylics to form the background.

Free-motion machine embroidery is like painting with thread. However, unlike painting where you move your brush across the paper to make your strokes and marks, with free-motion embroidery you do the opposite by lowering the feed dog on the sewing machine and then moving the fabric freely in any direction.

The final artwork is bonded onto a piece of material very similar to pelmet vylene to give it a little firmness and then finished off with a satin stitch border. Each ACEO has been signed and dated on the reverse and will be sent in a protective sleeve.

ACEO stands for 'Art Cards, Editions and Originals' - start collecting today, no two ACEOs are ever the same.

Thank you for looking.
