A lovely big shawl in pure silk – perfect to wear round your shoulders or waist, and throw on the ground for your picnic! Alternatively, just knit the tip up to make a kerchief to knot round your neck.
Materials
25 g fingering weight silk (or three strands of lace weight) for the neckerchief
210 g fingering weight silk (or three strands of lace weight) for the shawl
pair 4mm (US 6) needles
one 5 mm (US 8) needle for casting off
Sizes
Neckerchief measures 76 cm (30 inches) across the longest side and 36 cm (14 inches) deep
Shawl measures 211 cm (83 inches) across the longest side and 135 cm (53 inches) deep
Both are knitted from the tip up, and can be made bigger or smaller.
Tension
Two repeats of the border leaf pattern (16 sts and 32 rows) should measure 9 cm (3.5 inches) wide and 9 cm (3.5 inches) deep
One repeat of the centre leaf pattern (16 sts and 32 rows) should measure 7.5 cm (3 inches) wide and 9 cm (3.5 inches) deep
Note
The pattern will work with other fingering or UK 4 ply yarns.
