I have, in the last year or so, become enchanted by the possibilities that wood can offer to the world of jewellery. Compared with making furniture and other large items, I have found that working with wood at this scale opens the eyes to a different world: the micro-beauty of wood.My rings, I feel, bring out this beauty to perfection. They are stronger than I dared to hope, but do need a little more care than those of precious metals. For instance, immersion in water is not recommended. No two rings can ever be exactly alike, but if you need a ring in a different size to those shown here, I can normally craft one very similar.I do favour a finish that allows the ‘woodiness’ of the material to show through rather than a glossy varnish and most of what I have on sale feature an oil and hard wax finish. Wedding Anniversaries?
It’s worth remembering that wood is the traditional gift for a fifth wedding anniversary, as well as being the modern gift for a sixth wedding anniversary!Superstitious?…then with a wooden ring on your finger, you can always ‘Touch Wood’!This unusual ring is a UK size K 1/2 / USA size 5 3/8. The shank back tapers to around 8mm and the yew ‘cabouchon’ measures 10mm x 20mm. The ring is a laminate of Boxwood and Tambootie. Some believe that the yew is the most potent tree for protection against evil, a means of connecting to your ancestors, and a bringer of dreams.
