Acid
Acids weakens the cellulose in paper, which leads to its break down, causing discolouration and deterioration. When you purchase an item labeled as Acid-free, the item has been pH balanced at the factory, neutralising those acids.
Lignin
Lignin is the natural material which holds wood cells together. This is usually found in adhesives and in magnetic albums. If the paper is made from wood pulp it naturally contains lignin. However, this may also be removed at the manufacturing level.
