Inspired by the lyrics of an old Suzanne Vega song, Freezetag ("We go to the playground in the Wintertime), this stained glass panel is made entirely from recycled bottles and vintage glass.

The bottles used in this window are: Blue Nun (her jumper) Harvey's Bristol Cream (her tights) San Miguel (her hair) and the grass is from a bottle of white wine.

The red and orange glass came from some brandy glasses which I got from my local YMCA charity shop.

Kiln-flattened recycled glass has a beautiful clarity and depth of colour not seen in modern machine-produced glasses. You can see more of the process at my blog

The textured glass for the sky came from the kitchen units that were in our house when we moved in. I love how the pattern works in this window - it looks like Jack Frost. The glass for the cloud came from a 1930's leaded window which I repaired. It has a magnificent sparkle to it - I haven't seen a modern glass that is nearly as lovely.

My influences here are 1970s children's book illustrations coupled with the clean simplicity of Scandinavian design.

Panel size is 227 x 227mm
