Little pictures can tell big stories.

Hello. My name is Debbie Greenaway and I’m an illustrator and printmaker. Currently living in Warwickshire and originally from Yorkshire. I love making narrative illustrations and work from home in a room that is full of many things – pencils, paper, paints, books, silk screens, cacti and old christmas lights.

I love drawing and take a sketchbook with me everywhere. There is nothing better than nibbling biscuits and nursing a cup of tea while scribbling away. Ideas often start with random doodles, some come from my imagination, some from observation and some reflect daily events.

I discovered the magic of printmaking over ten years ago and screen-printing is one of my favourite ways of making pictures.

I completed an illustration degree in 2008 and during that year the AOI selected my work for their Images 33 Annual. In 2012, Folksy and India Hobson invited me to be part of their photography project that would become ‘Revealing Craft’, a crowd funded publication featuring thirteen Folksy makers/sellers.

In the summer of 2013, I decided to power up my pencil skills and attended a short course in children’s books in London. I love a platform game and levelled up twice more in 2014. I took part in a picture book writing course in Birmingham and also spent a week in Cambridge at a Children’s Book Summer School. Drawing and colouring is a whirlwind of fun and I am now on the biggest pencil adventure – studying towards a MA in Illustrated Children’s Books at the Cambridge School of Art.
