About Down to Earth Recycling

Down to Earth Recycling

Hand made, recycled, everyday, affordable works of art.

When I opened my shop I decided to stick to three simple rules;-
1. I would only use materials that had been left over from other projects.
2. I would make useful, practical things
3. I would use every scrap.
I haunt charity shops, picking up fabric, yarn and craft things. By making it known that I take leftovers I have a growing number of people who give me all theirs. With these bits and bobs that others would have thrown away I have had hours of satisfying sewing and knitting, making things that can be used.
I buy a t shirt make my 'eco pants' with, the bits too small for them I make crazy patchwork tea towels, the bits get smaller and made into rag rugs then, with bits of cotton jersey too small for rag rugs I make my ever popular 'Santa's Laundry' that's four things made from an old t shirt. Collecting odds and ends of knitting yarn I roll them into a huge ball with two or three strands of yarn rolled together and knit really thick chunky socks which are exceptionally warm and cosy, and highly practical. Fabric starts at apron size, then it's doll size, then large patchwork, size then small patchwork size, and finally table mat size pieces.
I have had great fun over the years thinking 'what can I do with that', and if my loyal and growing band of customers like any of the things I make they can buy it at a really reasonable price, and I don't charge for postage!
