I find inspiration for my art in the patterns, textures and colours of the natural world. The aim of my work is to share my delight in the beauty to be found in the small details all around us - in trees, plants, flowers and roots, rock, stone and water. I also enjoy working on animal subjects, trying to convey their individual personalities and quirks.
Colour pencil is my favourite medium, so straightforward to use it enables me to concentrate on the image rather than the technique. I am a member of the UK Colour Pencil Society.
I believe that experiment and play bring fun and creativity to art, and I enjoy trying out a wide variety of subjects, styles and media alongside my more traditional work.
I have exhibited for many years with Southern Nature and at a number of well-established shows local to my Hampshire home. My work was selected for exhibition at the St Barbe Open in 2023 for the eighth year running, and in 2020 one of my Fallen Leaves series was a category winner in the national SAA Artists of the Year competition.
Previously, one of my colour pencil drawings was shortlisted in the National Open Art competition, and two graphite drawings were accepted and hung at the Society of Graphic Fine Art DRAW15 exhibition.

This card was bought for an 80th birthday. We celebrated using the traditional idea of an 80 anniversary that uses oak to express longevity, endurance and wisdom. We also had a piece of Bog Oak of 3,500 years old that was made into a striker for a singing bowl.The card was used to write the information about the use of Oak and the making of the striker. We really admired the beautiful intricate drawing done by Helen. It was a great find and perfect for this birthday. Thank you Helen.
