A visit to Chester Zoo where I saw the colourful toucans and not being able to resist the large colour palette in Rowan's Pure Wool Worsted range set me off on this design.

Full description

This is a 12 page PDF knitting pattern for a throw or bedspread measuring 120cm x 200cm (48in x 78in) before the crochet edging is added. It is designed to fit a standard 3ft (90cm) single bed so that the picture squares are visible down the centre of the bed. The pattern gives instructions for the throw as it appears in the photo but the squares can be re-arranged as you wish.

The pattern features both fair isle (stranded knitting) and intarsia techniques and the use of a cable needle. The edging is done in a simple double crochet (American single crochet). There are written instructions for the ten textured squares (five designs x 2) and five colour charts featuring a giraffe, crocodile, toucan, tiger and elephant.

The completed throw weighs approx. 1700g.

Materials: Knitting needles 4.5mm; a cable needle; crochet hook 4.5mm

Rowan Pure Wool Superwash Worsted or a similar aran weight yarn in 15 shades

The PDF file will be sent to your email address as an attachment. I aim to reply within 48 hours. Please message me if you would prefer a printed copy on good quality colour paper.
