A Scandi-inspired menagerie of little porcelain gifts from The Jewellery Boat®

My name is Eleanor Watson and I have been a potter in Hackney for 20 years, firstly as a hobby and more recently teaching and making my own range of porcelain creatures for sale under the banner of "The Porcelain Menagerie"

I love mid century Scandinavian ceramics and very much enjoy hunting down affordable specimens in charity shops and car boot sales. However my first ceramic inspiration was a Royal Doulton "Faerie Lamp" that belonged to my Nana. She used it as a doorstop, but it is an intriguing Aladdin's lamp shaped vessel, with sprig moulded decoration all over its surface. This unusual antique first sparked my interest in texturing clay. Over the years I have amassed a huge collection of texturing tools including natural objects such as shells and pine cones as well as carving my own stamps and designs. The wonderful white finish of porcelain lends itself to printing and I enjoy dreaming up new textured and slightly Scandi-creatures to add to the family each year.

All my pieces are hand made, decorated and glazed. I string them with cotton cord ready to hang up in your home. I also make jewellery and am currently working on a collection of porcelain jewellery set in silver. Watch this space!
