Reversible tractor fordite earrings

These hoop earrings have have drops of bold fordite which has been bezel set in sterling silver, the drops can be taken off the hoops and turned around giving two pairs of earrings in one. The fordite is predominantly white on the front with wavey bands of colour in shades of green, black, grey, orange and dark red. the reverse is predominately grey green with black, orange, white and green. The patterns don't match but the drops were cut from the same piece of rough so they work as a pair on either side. The drops measure approx 40mm (53mm from the top of the hoop) by 15mm, fordite is surprisingly lightweight so they would be comfortable to wear all day. Comes in a gift box.

Fordite is the name given to many layers of cured paint that builds up in spray booths at vehicle factories, the paint gets baked hard in between each layer leading to a durable material that can be cut to show off the colours. This particular material was sold to me as coming from a tractor factory (possibly a Ford plant in Dearborn, USA) in the 1930's and the colours are certainly consistent with the paint charts I've found for that era. I cut this material myself from the slabettes I bought so if you want me to make you something else drop me a message. Fordite is becoming increasingly hard to source thanks to more efficient painting processes so if you love vehicles get some of the unique material whilst you can.
