Full description

These stud earrings feature finely striped fordite which has been bezel set in sterling silver and they have been finished with silver posts and scrolls. The fordite has very fine stripes of red, maroon, yellow and white with a little black and blue. The studs measure 13mm diameter with the post central to the earring, fordite is lightweight so these aren't heavy in the earlobe. Comes gift boxed.

Not come across fordite before? It is the name given to waste spray paint that forms at automotive factories. Each vehicle adds new layer of paint to the build up and it gets baked hard after each one. Lapidarists discovered that it could be cut and polished to show off the multitude of colours. This particular material came from the Corvette factory in Bowling Green, Kentucky, probably between 2005-2015 (the sample contains velocity yellow which was produced between those years). I cut and polish this material myself and have quite a stash from a range of years and factories so if you like the idea of fordite but want something else drop me a message.
