Full description
This lovely beach scene bookmark features waves breaking onto a sandy beach under a partly cloudy sky. The bookmark is made from a variety of fabrics and pieces of haberdashery. I’ve then added free-motion embroidered detailing. The colour scheme includes shades of blue, cream, white, golden brown and blue-green. The sky is made from pale blue and cream variegated print fabric. The sea consists of blue fabrics, fabric selvedge, and white fluffy yarn and lace. The sand is made from golden cream fabric. The sea and sand features free-motion embroidered detailing. I’ve used free motion embroidery to add some reeds, using golden beige and blue-green thread. I’ve also added a piece of cream twill ribbon, with the words “Beach life”, which I’ve hand-stamped in black ink (this has then been ironed to make it water-resistant). The bookmark has been stiffened with an inner layer of interfacing, backed with pale blue upholstery fabric, and edged with zig-zag stitching in blue thread.
This lovely beach themed bookmark would make the perfect gift for anyone who loves reading and the sea. It is also an inexpensive way to own a piece of original textile art.
