About this item
This Diamond Handmade Wooden Wall Clock is veneered on the front face of the Dial with a beautiful and rugged Burr Brown Oak timber and on the rear face with crown cut white oak. The hour markers are inlaid squares made from striped sycamore and ebony that contrast with the burr brown oak for visibility and align with the white minute, hour and seconds ‘batten’ clock hands. The complete Dial is finished with a contrasting ‘ripple’ sycamore trim. Brown oak is rarer than white or red oaks and ‘burr’ or ‘burl’ brown oak which comes from the rounded knotty growth on a tree is even more rare. Ripple or ‘fiddleback’ (seen on the back of violins) sycamore - which is harder to find than straight grained sycamore - has a beautiful ’tiger’s eye’ effect with the play of light on the timber. The ebony used for the hour markers comes from 1980s stock which I still have in my workshop prior to any ebony export bans. (Unlike digital time displays), the Clock is designed to be enjoyed, like a painting, as part of your wall decor whether you need to know the time or not (!) and is also ideal as a Special Occasion Gift for a loved one. Other Features:- The size is 211 x 211 x 25mm (8 5/16 x 8 5/16 x 1 inches). A Standard quartz movement with a year ’s battery life is used. Battery included. Signed by Tim Ashby; December 2003; Clock Number 140/12. Supplied in a ‘linen texture’ blue presentation box.

The inspiration for this clock originated with an exploration of how the time could be displayed on beautiful timbers resulting in the (Liquorice Allsort) inlaid square hour markers made from striped sycamore and ebony. The size of the Dial is determined by the length of the Minute Hand and the sweep of the Seconds Dial provides a soothing presence in your room.
