About this item
Earrings made from two of the tines from a silverplated stainless steel fork. The forks were from a design called Adam and dates from 1917. Almost 4cms drop. Sterling silver ear hooks. Despatched wrapped in tissue paper in an organza bag via the Royal Mail Tracked 48 service in the UK. Small silver cleaning cloth included. I use silver plate cutlery for 3 reasons. Firstly it is cheaper and easier to come by than the sterling silver. Secondly, it might need to be sent to the Assay Office again. So, more expensive to buy in the first place and then more to be hallmarked. Finally, there is likely to be minor imperfections in the finish, after all, if they've been used for the purpose they were made for, then they will have! So overall, if you are buying an upcycled secondhand piece of cutlery, the cost of a sterling silver version might well feel prohibitive. Upcycled in Lancashire

My friend's mum died and she was sorting through her belongings. She asked me if I would like some of her cutlery collection. I recycle coins and biscuit tins but I'd never tried cutlery before - so I tried! Stainles steel is a lot more difficult to cut than the silver and copper I'm used to doing but I'm practicing and getting better with every piece.
