This eye-catching natural shell necklace features a pendant centrepiece made from a 10x8mm Shiva Eye Shell bead, topped with a trio of 3 and 4mm yellow Austrian crystal bicones and 2mm gold vermeil beads. The pendant is set between gold lip shell heishi beads, and to either side is another Shiva Eye shell and crystal formation. Heishi beads and 5mm creamy shell rounds complete the piece, which fastens with a Tibetan style gold goggle clasp. Shiva Eye shell is steeped in folklore, The shell forms a protective 'door' at the opening of the Turban Snail shell, which detaches at the end of the snails life and falls to the sea bed. Around Indonesia it is known as 'Shiva's Eye', a symbol of the God Shiva's third eye. As such it is seen as a sacred object of spiritual awakening and enlightenment. As with most 'eyes', it is believed to protect the wearer and ward off evil. Other names for this beautiful piece of natural geometry are 'Pacific cat's eye', 'mermaid's money', 'the eye of Naxos' and 'tears of Lucy'.
