India's ancient city of Varanasi lies on the banks of the sacred river Ganges. Hindu pilgrims come here to purify their sins, and their dead are brought here for cremation. By doing so, it's believed they will be released from the cycle of life and death, and achieve salvation. I took these portraits and street photographs in December 2019.
