About Fat Cat Clay Creations

Fat Cat Clay Creations

If Izzy ‘Fat Cat’ makes you smile, I hope my jewellery creations will too

I’ve been creating since I could pick up a crayon (please disregard my attempt at ‘painting’ my parents wardrobe doors with wallpaper paste when I was 3 - maybe an early attempt at decoupage!) and over the years I have progressed through different, more traditional (and less sticky) mediums.

I attended art college then went on to be a graphic designer and studio manager. That was back in the dinosaur era pre-computers. I would produce hand drawn mock-ups of logos and leaflets using felt pens, rulers and fine line pens, yes, I’m not lying! Copy and paste was literally just that, we cut something out and glued it down elsewhere.

I still loved it as every day was different but then I decided to become a mum. My daughter has the creating gene and when she was little she used to do her own creations quietly under the table at the craft fairs we would attend with me selling my watercolour pencil portraits and other art. Although I do wonder if there was an element of neglect when we arrived one day and she still had her Postman Pat slippers on!

She’s now all grown up and a mature student in London studying for a degree in Visual Effects Animation. It’s interesting to see how greatly we both differ in our styles and what we love to create but we are each other’s greatest supporters.

Sadly I was never able to go back to my original career as computers had taken over and there were programs to be learnt and I’d be a junior again. My job didn’t exist anymore which was hard to take so I had to diversify or become extinct. Then I came across polymer clay and it’s such fun!

The only problem is……I can’t stop creating!! So to get around this I tend to create individual one-off pairs of earrings or I have a small slab and make just a few the same or variations on a theme. This feeds my need, the need for, well, endless creations!

Fat Cat Clay Creations is named after our mad cat Izzy seen in the photo above as a kitten in the (fake) tulips. She is now all grown up aged 11 and is by no means a fat cat but she does have the funny wobbly loose belly that swings from side to side when she trots. It’s not fat though, it’s actually called the primordial pouch and it’s part of a cats anatomy. All felines have this abdominal flap, although it varies in size from cat to cat. I have photos of Izzy where she does resemble the outline of my logo and I like to share images of her on my Instagram account.

Back to the jewellery…if you’re still reading this, thank you for baring with me and I do hope you keep popping back regularly to see my new creations. Please do share with your friends and family and let me know if you have any questions or requests, I love to interact with customers.

Happy shopping x
