About Art Textile Attic

Bio:
Artist, designer and maker with over 35 years professional experience. I have been hand knitting and sewing since being a small child. I then studied a BA in fashion knitwear design and worked as a knitwear designer before gaining a PGCE and becoming an art and design teacher and head of faculty. Through teaching I worked under the art syllabus and my interest in different artists and styles grew.

Artist statement:
Through textile art, I explore and experiment with colour, pattern and texture. I am inspired by organic shapes and the natural world around me.

How I Make my Work:
My pieces are formed from an original design using a combination of hand embellishing and embroidery to create texture and pattern, combing appliqué, free machine embroidery and manipulating both fabric and knitted structures or stitch formations. It is all about getting lost in and enveloped by the creative journey.
