If I'm not painting, patchworking or gardening, I'm just not happy!

I moved to the small village of Steeple from Burnham-on-Crouch in 2004 lured by the promise of a bigger garden which I am trying to make as wildlife friendly as possible. I discovered recently that I have at least two hedgehogs, so I'm delighted.

This is an area of flat farmland, having been marshland before much of it was drained, but there are still wild areas and salt marsh full of wildlife. We know when the barnacle geese have arrived as we can hear them when they all settle on the field at the end of the garden.

I do like to paint the birds and really love playing with watercolours, especially line and wash. I've collected quite a few sketches and photos over the years and have hundreds of ideas for future works. I just can't paint fast enough.

I usually do my art in the orchid room because the light is just right for both me and the plants. When it's dull, I can use the plants grow lights and daylight lamps to make sure my colours are correct. This is the farm across the road and this field is usually full of sheep and sea birds.
