About Amanda's Paint Box

Amanda's Paint Box

A lifetime of imagination and Lancashire heritage brought to life in watercolour.

A bit about me, I am self taught , I was born and bred in a small Lancashire mining village on the outskirts of the small town of Wigan, a proud Northern girl. I am inspired by the beauty and interesting things I see around me and a lifetime of story book adventures mum would read to me every night Enid Blyton which of course included the Famous Five and Tales from Beatix Potter and one of my favourites, Ladybird books, Sometimes mum exhausted from a busy day looking after the house, four children and a husband She would doze of mid chapter and I would give mum a nudge eager for more, Our home was a traditional two up two down terrace with no running hot water, but it was filled with imagination, Dad would often tell me stories he made up I would sit on his knee in front of the roaring coal fire and eagerly listen as he would weave tales of 'Jimmy Jackdaw's adventures. I have wonderful memories of Holidays in Wales and Ireland with my two older sisters and younger brother collecting Shells along the coast, making sandcastles and enjoying mums sandwiches eaten in the salty sea air and tasting twice as nice with a hearty appetite from the seaside activities, sitting on a blanket mum and dad shared a hot flask of tea. During the long summer holiday's I would ramble with friends in the meadows and fields. Make den's and tree swings and horse riding or helping out with the horses at the local farm, sometimes we would find a birds nest and marvel at the eggs, being careful not disturb it , Seeing many of our wonderful wildlife friends along the way. These things have inspired my art and my love of History, Along with the later beach holidays with my own young family and exploring bluebell filled woodlands and the countryside on our door step with many sightings of deer, foxes, rabbits ,mice and birds making more memories on these walks with our family dog companions. All these things are at the heart of my paintings.. So I'd love you too join me on those journeys through my art.
