About Misha Carter Art

Misha Carter Art

Celebrating creation's beauty, wildlife and colour using reclaimed materials where possible.

Hi, there! Thanks for visiting my shop. I'm Misha. Misha is my nickname and my art name. When I was a little girl, my favourite item of clothing was a bright red jump suit, and for as long as I can remember I've loved colour, being a bit different, and being at one with nature. What better place for all that than the beautiful green hills and valleys, magical woodlands, and fabulous coastlands of Wales where one of my joys is walking my rough collie (lassie dog), Rosy.

I love to paint on reclaimed Welsh slate roof tile, some of it 100 years old. All my slate work is prepared beforehand, sanding the slate so there are no sharp edges, hand-painting and completing each piece with several layers of UV varnish so they can be enjoyed indoors and outdoors.

People often buy or commission my slate paintings for decorative purposes in the house and garden, for memorial gardens, house names and numbers, as coasters, as gifts, and to celebrate something special to them like a place they love. One lady commissioned the piece you see on my shop banner, and wanted me to include over 20 species of wildlife and plants! And I did!

I also make crocheted rag bags (because there's so much wonderful fabric out there that can be used again), and folk art sculptures. Occasionally, I make wood carvings too.

My shop has been closed on and off due to travel and life events. I've been something of a nomad for years, living in several countries and extraordinary places including the North American desert, remote Asian cities and jungle-covered mountains. Sometimes, my work reflects those experiences, but the solidity, light and colour of the inspiring Welsh landscape and the wildlife that fills it, and my love of reusing natural materials is currently my greatest influence. My shop is open once again, and I hope you enjoy it and find something you love for yourself or as a special gift.

I am over the moon with my purchase from Michelle. She helped me with the design of my slate and created it with a great deal of love and care. It will be treasured by my family for years to come.
