I’m a working dressmaker with my own studio, making and designing special clothing from scratch (including pattern cutting), altering and fitting bridal wear and everyday sewing. I also teach sewing skills and really enjoy watching my students blossom in confidence with their machines. I run regular weekly sewing classes which are currently fully subscribed, and one-off classes throughout the year.
I love to use up my offcuts of fabrics, be that a hem length from a pair of jeans or trimmings from a wedding gown. I also get offcuts from a curtain maker and these are real treasures - luxury velvets and silks in larger pieces that compliment my patchworked textiles perfectly.
My work is inspired by the beauty of Mother Nature, and my designs develop naturally from a mixture of problem solving (eg I have 30cm of fabric, what can I make from it?) and allowing the colours and textures of the fabrics to speak to me. I absolutely love hand embroidery and exploring texture through that and fabric manipulation, and really love adding snippets of interesting yarns and beads to add richness to flat fabrics.
Experimentation is everything, and I follow a wandering path to the final creation, each and every time. In dressmaking and alterations, planning and organisation is key, but here, I allow myself the luxury of just letting the flow take over.
