Hand turned from green bay wood, 'Unfolding' is a one-of-a-kind wooden vessel that celebrates the natural movement of timber as it dries. Its gently distorted form, fine walls and contrasting rosewood base make it equally suited to display as a sculptural object or contemporary decorative vessel.
I turned the vessel while the timber still contained its natural moisture. As the wood dried, it moved gently and developed its own distinctive form. Instead of resisting those changes, I allowed them to become part of the final design.
The thin walls and flowing profile highlight the natural colour and fine grain of the bay wood. In contrast, the hand turned rosewood base adds warmth, stability and a subtle visual contrast.
Every piece of timber tells a different story. For that reason, I celebrate natural features such as grain variation, gentle distortion and individual markings. As a result, no two vessels can ever be the same.
Display Unfolding on its own as a sculptural object, or use it to hold dried stems. Either way, it brings the beauty and character of sustainably sourced British timber into your home.
