Ceramic Plate Middlesbrough August 2026 Handcrafted into Pendant September 2026 While visiting Middlesbrough I came across a pair of oval plates in a recycle shop, taped together and a bit chipped. Plain with striking rim pattern. I noticed the manufacturer's mark 'Meakin', I particularly love the design and colours of the Meakin range. While cleaning the plates to start work I realised what I thought was 'Alfred Meakin' mark was actually J&G Meakin. Same family but different companies from Stoke-on-Trent. J&G established 1851, the plate design production 1912-1930's. Reluctant to actually brake the plates I decided to keep the large one and work on the more damaged smaller oval. Gently clipping the rim to create as many patterned shards as possible. Due to the age of the ceramic I decided to work on sanding into a bezel tray rather than drilling a hole. This small round pendant displays one of the blue flowers, the pattern slightly scratched and imperfect which I love to preserve. The idea is to create something new from old, the finished piece isn't meant to be perfect. Instead, retain marks, stains and scratches, part of the original character of the ceramic. Set into an open back 14mm Recycled Sterling Silver bezel. Hanging on 18 inch Recycled Sterling Silver snake chain. Delivered in gift box made from FSC®-certified cardboard and water-based glue. Presented on Jewellery box insert made from tall oil, a by-product of paper production. Sustainable gifts, complete with short bio and gift bag.
