Golden Eagle aka The Gold Squarken, Scotland's Big 5, A4 art print

In 2013 during the Year of Natural Scotland, Visit Scotland and NatureScot joined forces to celebrate some of Scotland's best loved wildlife - Scotland's Big 5. This collection is my tribute to these five majestic animals, all of which I have been lucky enough to see in the wild. Painted using watercolours with pencil details, these illustrations combine the unique features of the animals with elements of the landscape they live in. The second largest bird of prey in the UK, it was an ancient belief that golden eagles were the only animal that could stare into the sun without going blind. Another popular myth is that when eagles were old they would fly towards the sun until their feathers caught fire and after plunging into the sea their youth would be renewed. Golden eagles are Scotland's apex predator and are known to hunt mountain hares, rabbits and foxes. This A4 giclée print is produced from an original watercolour illustration 29.7cm wide by 21cm high. Packaged in recyclable and compostable materials so that your print reaches you in perfect condition. Fits a standard frame. Painted and printed in my home studio in the Scottish Highlands. Sold unframed so that you can choose a style to suit your home, this A4 print would look great framed perched on a shelf. Team it up with the other members of Scotland's Big 5 that you have seen!
