About this item
This painting is a portrait study of "The Martyr of the Solway" by the Pre-Raphaelite artist John Everett Millais. I have taken Impressionist inspiration to add vibrancy and warmth, in contrast to the cooler atmosphere of the original work. With the swirling hair, I hope to represents the windswept environment of Solway Firth whilst shrouding the subject's visage in a colourful, halo-like light.
