Shard discovered The River Tees Barnard Castle Co Durham October 2022 Handcrafted into Pendant October 2025 I love collecting anything broken, lost or found by chance. There's a small patch of ground beside the River Tees, Barnard Castle, heavy downpours expose all sorts of broken pot, glass, bits of pipes and wonderful oyster shells. I found a striking shard of coloured ceramic, beautiful flowers, hand painted. After a thorough clean I gently drilled a hole and created a pendant. Sadly the ceramic broke while threading a chain through the hole so I decided to store the piece. Recently I cam across the shard and managed to rework and sand down to make a delicate pendant. The idea is to create something new from old and use recycled materials to produce unique jewellery. The finished piece isn't meant to be perfect but instead retain part of the original character, including marks and scratches, all part of the history of the ceramic and materials used. Hanging on 18 inch recycled sterling silver chain. Set in 13 mm recycled silver bezel tray. Both polished and hallmarked 925. Delivered in gift box made from FSC®-certified cardboard and water-based glue. Presented on Jewellery box insert made from tall oil, a by-product of paper production. Complete with short bio and FSC®-certified gift bag. All materials used are from sustainable sources and can be recycled.
