Creating surface textures in clay is absolutely my favourite thing to do. I can no longer look at an everyday object without wondering if it would make a nice pattern pressed into clay!
Here for example I’ve used lace, a drawer knob, cake icing equipment, an ornamental key and an old hot water bottle amongst other things. I can’t even describe how satisfying it is to then flood it all with a cobalt wash and see the patterns pop.

Full description
Heavily embossed with lace and “found” items, highlighted with a cobalt wash which is then wiped back to accentuate the textures, and finally finished off in the kiln with shards of glass that melt and spread out to form a blue, glossy pool like water. The attention to detail doesn’t stop there either… I give it just as much loving care underneath too as you can see from the photo!
