A richly patterned batik fabric has been used for sections of the owl's wings and tail, while his breast and face have been brought to life with carefully chosen embroidery threads in different shades. The individual stitches create the suggestion of soft, layered feathers and give the owl a wonderfully tactile quality. There's something particularly captivating about a tawny owl sitting quietly and watching the world go by, and I've tried to capture that still, watchful quality in this piece.
