Ceramic Shard Discovered Staithes Beach August 2024 Handcrafted into Pendant March 2026 I visited Staithes Beach in North Yorkshire on a lovely day in late August 2024. The tide had already reached the point where some of the beach was cut off but there's a lovely small sandy area which in still accessible within the harbour walls. Although there wasn't a large area to mudlark I found a few small pieces of ceramic, one in particular with tiny, blue streaks and slight staining. The glaze had completely washed away, I love the matte finish that comes from time spent in the waves. I never have a set idea of how the finished piece will look but instead allow it to naturally develop. I thought the original shape would remain however, through cleaning and sanding the form changed into a droplet. I managed to drill a hole and smooth, finish with matte Eco friendly sealant. The idea is to create something new from old, found by chance. The finished piece isn't meant to be perfect or highly polished. Instead retain part of the shard's original character, including marks and stains. Full of history and journey. Hanging on 46 cm 925 sterling silver snake chain. Pendant Measures 23 mm x 13 mm (widest) x 5 mm. Delivered in gift box made from FSC®-certified cardboard and water-based glue.
