Full description
This bird is hand made and measures approx. 9cm high and 12cm long. I modelled the bird shape first and made a rough mould, It is press moulded using stoneware clay and burnished before being dried and fired in an electric kiln, I then paint on 4 layers of clear raku glaze coloured with silver nitrate oxide. It is then fired again in a gas kiln, then at about 1,000 degrees centigrade it is taken out, this massive change in temperature causes the random crazing in the glaze then it is smoked in a container with sawdust, and any cracks in the glaze are turned black, this bird does have some gold flashing near the base, see pic. 4.
