Human Skull earrings

Human Skull earrings
Love this

The human skull is a fascinating object, peculiarly intimate and alien at the same time. It can conjure up fearful thoughts of death and haunting's, or inspire curiosity about the face that once clothed it and the person who once inhabited it.

Searching for images of skulls to base these sculpted earrings on I found that whilst each one is similar, what lies beneath our skin is actually as unique as the outside. Not usually coming into contact with real human skulls in our modern lives its perhaps not something we fully appreciate now, but we certainly used to, with skulls appearing in ancient art all over the world and the display of real skulls once upon a time not considered such a creepy idea. The image of the skull appears most often of course when connected to festivals dedicated to death and rebirth, such as Samhain, Halloween, All souls day and Dia De Los Muertos.

These skulls have been hand sculpted using polymer clay and finished with an umber paint wash and varnish to give a real life old skull appearance. The ear wires are hypo allergenic surgical steel and they come in a smart black gift box.

If buying for Halloween please consider the time required for posting and order at least 3 working days before needed to avoid disappointment.
