I wanted to make a smaller version of a mosaic I made called "Gathering Darkness" using the sun as the central motif. I also made a long mosaic with 10 parts called "Disappearing Sun" showing the gradual disintegration of the sun as the sky darkens and the birds take over.

Full description
This mosaic is made using Venetian smalti glass (opaque and transparent) and gold leaf mosaic glass. I use "pizzas" of smalti (see photo) and cut and shape it as I work. The mosaic is 25cm (height) x 20cm (width). It is made on cement board and framed in a wood frame, ready to hang.
Perfect to add a little sunshine to that small contemplative space, beside the stair window, or in that cosy nook beside the fire.
