On a visit,, my parents came back from a day trip to a local fishing port with a bag of brand new, unused toothbrushes. I never understood why. A few months later, my mother was talking to a friend at her lace making class who told her about the toothbrush rug.
Made by recycling unwanted materials into something new, my mum immediately thought of me as I work for an environmental charity, volunteer for two others and try and find a new use for everything rather than it end up in land fill.
I recently sold the first toothbrush rug I ever made on Folksy. Here is one I have just finished, inspired by all the lovely Devonian coastline I am so lucky to live near.

Made using strips of discarded cotton fabric and a toothbrush, this circular toothbrush rug breaths new life into unwanted material and brightens up any home. The seashore inspired colours makes it an ideal home accessory for a bathroom or holiday retreat.
Measures 36inches (92cm) in diameter.
