I wanted to make a childrens toy that was quick to knit in chunky weight yarn. The knitted design is the same on each side. I decided to make the reverse side with the eyes closed.

This is a knitting pattern sent to your email address in PDF within 24 hours of payment.

These cute owls are wide awake on one side and fast asleep on the other. Using a bulky weight yarn with two strands knitted together the owls are quick to knit. Instructions are given for three different sizes. Buttons and crochet embellishment complete the features. The owls are knitted in two pieces then sewn together.

Skills required to make the owls;

Cast on

Cast off

Knit

Purl

Cable stitch

Crochet chain stitch

Sew on buttons and over stitch.

Materials reuired;

For the Brown or White Owl x2 50g balls Debbie Bliss Como, or alternative 100g Rowan Big Wool for the main colour. Small amounts of two contrast colours.

For the Orange Owl x3 50g balls Debbie Bliss Como or alternative x2 100g balls Rowan Big Wool for the main colour. A small amount of a contrast colour.

Filling – approx. two / three large hands full of 100% wool fibre or polyester fibre filling per owl

Pair of size 12 mm knitting needles (US size 17)

Size 10 mm crochet hook (US size P)

2 buttons 1 inch diameter (25mm) and strong sewing thread with suitable size needle for sewing on

Tapestry needle

Sizes;

Brown Owl 7” (18cm) tall, 5” (13cm) across, 3” (8cm) deep.

Snowy Owl 7” (18cm) tall, 6” (15cm) across, 3” (8cm) deep.

Orange Owl 8” (20cm) tall, 8.5” (22cm) across, 3” (8cm) deep
