Calligraphy and gilding are my favourite pastimes.

Ever since I was small I have loved paper, pens and pencils, and even now I can't leave a stationery or art shop empty handed. I also had a fascination for books and the ancient manuscripts in particular, and wondered how they were made. Eventually I discovered the art of calligraphy and have been lucky enough to attend classes with many of the most expert calligraphers in the country.

I work in a small log cabin which should be more properly called a scriptorium and during the lock down I found myself in there more and more often. So I decided I would concentrate on working with gold, which I love but due to the process it requires a long time to complete a piece of work, but the time was now available to me. I began making gesso, this mixture cannot be bought and uses very old recipes.

If you buy a piece of my gilded work it will have taken hours, days, sometimes weeks to produce depending on it size and complexity. The pieces without gilding still require quite a long time to produce as the the drying times can vary, again due to size and complexity.

Therefore if a piece is on the website and not marked as made to order it means it is available and ready to be posted within the 2- 3 days as stated. However if you commission a piece it will take longer. The more intricate a design, the longer it takes, so approximately three weeks would be an average but I will discuss the details with you when you place the order.
