About the wanderingpotter

the wanderingpotter

Quirky hand built functional ceramics, inspired by nature.

Hi, I'm Louise and I'm a hand building potter from Stockton-on-Tees, Teesside.
I fell in love with pottery when I visited a pottery studio as a child, in my early 20's I joined an adult education class, so I am mostly self taught, and constantly learning, I then went on to teach the class. .I opened up a pottery studio in 2013,teaching & sharing my love of clay with people of all abilities and ages.
I am now focusing on making and loving every minute of it, I have created a small studio at home in my garage.
The pieces I make are hand built, I love the freedom hand building can give, where designs can be altered during the process to create something very unique each time. I hand build in small batches of 6-8 pieces, mainly using stoneware clay, I often have new ideas and am easily distracted so sometimes that one batch can be the only batch. My work evolves all the time.
I'm a home bird and fascinated by houses of all shapes and sizes so making houses seemed a given. I also love the woods, being with trees gives me peace, so I try to combine natural elements from the forest into my work. I collect bits of foliage while out wandering in the woods that I use to make unique stamps for my work.
In my shop you will find an eclectic mix including teacup sets, mugs, wall hangings, tealight and incense houses, vases, small plates and decorative dishes and occasionally a bowl. It's just what's in my head.
I'm Gen X so have little interest in social media, you can however find me on Instagram,
@t.w.potter be great if you could follow me there. Thanks so much for visiting my shop, you are fabulous!
