Welcome to Shire Finds!

My name is Sharon and I'm a modern-day beachcomber come river larker. Now retired from teaching I have more time to enjoy the great outdoors, walking the beaches, inlets and coves along the North Yorkshire coast. Often heading inland along a river bank or brook searching for little treasures, natural or manmade. On occasions cleaning beaches and river banks as I go along! I'm passionate about caring for the environment and on a small scale I play my part to protect, restore and create a safe habitat for wildlife as well as keeping our rivers and beaches clean from plastic.

I find beauty in natural things like fossils and colourful tactile stones and I’m fascinated how time in the sea washes and wears glass and pottery, smoothing the edges, often changing the colour, making the piece tactile and a sweet little treasure to craft with.

I’ve crafted pendants and bracelets for friends and family for many years using natural materials to hand with glass beads, dressed stones, pottery shards, and copper and silver wire. However, beachcombing and river larking has opened my eyes to the abundance of interesting objects resting on the surface of beaches and river banks waiting to be picked up and given a new home. If only that little pottery shard or sea worn glass could speak – memories of a time long gone embedded in the very nature of the object!

Shire Finds is proud to support British manufacture and the 100% pure copper wire, silvered copper wire, sterling silver chains, bails and findings are sourced from reputable UK producers and suppliers.

A gift bought from my shop will be packaged in a box lovingly made by Shire Finds - 98% of the materials used are eco-friendly, non-toxic and can be safely re-cycled.

This is an exciting new venture for me and I'm so looking forward to creating gifts to add to my new Folksy shop in the very near future.
