Hi, I'm Sarah Lewis, other wise known as ShoreLark. I'm never happier than when I'm by the sea, scavenging for bits of wood, rockpooling, bird watching, being inspired by sea shore shapes, textures, colours. I studied Marine Biology at Liverpool University which fueled my passion for the sea and everything in it and on it, from great whales to tiny wriggling plankton. I sailed on the Irish Sea for years until my Charlie got fed up of the icy water and took me off to live on a boat in Greece for a few years! Later I worked for the RSPB monitoring sea birds. I'm a little bit crazy about birds!
I finally got around to exploring my creative side and now I love making unique pieces from all the things I collect, mostly from the beaches of North Wales (where I live) and the west coast of Scotland, which I visit as often as possible in my campervan.
I have a great little workshop at the bottom of my garden, which Charlie made for me. Charlie's my husband, he's also a joiner and every time he makes things I clean up after him, picking up any unusual bits of left over wood for my pile. You never know what they might end up being...
When I first started making driftwood pieces, I used to collect any wood I found, now I'm quite fussy and know exactly what I want. I try not to alter the wood shape so I spend ages looking for just the right pieces that might be a bird's beak, or a whale, or a fish.
