About Penny Jane Designs

Penny Jane Designs

A textile artist specialising in making handmade felt goods to make you feel cherished.

I am a textile artist based in Birmingham, UK.

After obtaining a Fashion and Textiles degree way back in the mists of time called the 1990s I worked with many people and gave them a vast amount of support and encouragement to help them realise they can enjoy art and craft activities regardless of their skill or training.

In 2007 as part of life's journey I began to reconnect with the fact that artists need to take time to "do their own thing" too!

Having long been aware of the overall therapeutic benefits of participating in arts and crafts and always having been a bit of a swot I then completed a PGCE followed by a Masters in Art, Health and Wellbeing in 2012.

I have particular fondness for the textures of wool and textiles and my work often reflects inspiration from organic forms encountered on long muddy dog walks around Birmingham and beyond.

I feel it is important to work to our own rhythms and respond to the seasons. I sometimes find myself following the sun from the front (computer spot) of the house in the morning to the back in the afternoon (studio space).

Pieces are made according to mood and energy. Sometimes my work is bright and quirky. Other times it is quiet and contemplative. But it is always made with thought and care with time and space to reflect on the development of new pieces. I am also a compulsive list writer and hoarder of small objects that may come in useful one day.
