About glass by sheena

glass by sheena

Totally obsessed with creating anything glass related

most days you can find me in my workshop in the garden creating, designing, planning, teaching, selling or just sat looking at my hoards of sheet glass waiting for me to cut up and make something beautiful with.
glass is my passion I feel incredibly lucky to be able to make it my full time job too.

I love the whole process of making a stained glass light catcher. sometimes I draw out the design first, other times I find a beautiful sheet of glass that is calling out to be used. I then cut and grind all my pattern pieces, often changing the design as I go. once I am happy with the lay out, I then use copper foil to edge each individual piece, sometimes this can take hours depending on the size of the work. I like to listen to audio books or a podcast to keep me entertained, if anyone can see me they must think I'm a little cuckoo laughing and talking to myself but I'm happy in my little bubble :)
when all the pieces are foiled and placed in their final place I then start with the soldering, this is my favourite process. goggles and facemask on and off I go. it is amazing to see the design turn into a real piece of art right in front of you. the final stage is a good scrub and polish. quite often during the whole process I am already thinking of the next design and cant wait to get started.

I attend local craft events in and around Plymouth my favourite being the royal William yard monthly food and craft event. I doesn't matter if someone buys a £5 item or a £25 item I get the same buzz and do a inside happy dance knowing that my art work pleases other people. also they are helping me feed my addiction to buy more glass and start the creating process all over again.

I also teach stained glass, fused glass and mosaics in my workshop. I am proud to say that I have created lots of other glass monsters in my local area. some have gone on to buy their own equipment so that they can create more artwork for themselves.
I love it when I bump into people, I can see that they are just as obsessed and love the world of glass.

Thankyou for taking the time to read my babble and looking through my folksy shop. please let me know what you think by leaving a little review.
