Design and make tiny knitted characters.

I've always loved the mini world and have been knitting for as long as I can remember. A couple of years ago, my sister lent (gave) me some 1mm needles.
I was broke; it was Christmas, so I knitted some mini Christmas mice (standing 2cm tall) for family & haven't looked back.

I make animals that are typically found in the British countryside - the tallest is 5cm (Lanky Joe - a hare wearing jeans & an aran jumper) & the smallest just 2cm tall (Humperdinck - a tiny mouse wearing little blue dungarees). I have drawn plans for a mini seaside town where my characters can live - Little Yarnings - but am yet to actually find time & space to make it!

I make mini stop motion films with my mini characters (the smallest is made with 0.5mm needles) and have just started to design larger (10cm) poseable characters as well as patterns for even bigger palm-sized mice & their clothes.

Because I typically use 0.7mm needles & sewing yarn, I can take my knitting everywhere with me & it doesn't take up too much space. All of my characters have been designed & made by me - from start to finish. this means that every one of them is unique with its own characteristics. They really come to life all on their own once you start to add their arms & faces. I become incredibly attached to each one that I make - if you can imagine the concentration & focus needed to sew a 3cm character together & add its nose, ears & features, you can see why!
