About Lindseys Stitch Craft

Lindseys Stitch Craft

I am Lindsey and I have always loved to stitch, through good times and bad!

I come from a generation that was taught to knit and sew from a young age, usually by grandmothers - which is true in my case - at the age of six, on my Nanny Jack's knee, in front of the roaring fire. Since then, I have always had some stitch craft project or other on the go, that I could pick up and lose myself in for a while. I guess you could therefore say that I have had over fifty years of experience and knowledge and that is why I chose to stitch for a living - and because I love it!

All the pieces I stitch start from something I have seen that inspires me; the idea often brews for a while, then I will see a piece of fabric, ball of wool or patchwork block that I know will move the project forward. I read a lot of books about traditional stitch craft and incorporate that into my work, along with ideas from current magazines and articles I see online. Every finished item in my shop is the culmination of my thoughts and feelings about past experiences and continued experimentation with methods, colours and styles and my hope is that seeing them will connect with something positive in the viewer, which will always makes them smile. Maybe that will be a Scottish landscape, or a traditional Amish style patchwork block, or a favourite colour - something that brings the outdoors in and lifts the spirits.

I started sewing miniature patchwork quilts because they are a snapshot of traditional patchwork and applique designs, that I am able to add my own detail to and then they are easy to display, plus they chime with a country decor. Whereas fabric collages are something I have been enjoying experimenting with for several years and honing my own individual style by trial and error. My knitted baby blankets are designed individually and I have a project with me, on my needles, wherever I go.

I would love your input on what inspires you, in order for me to continue to sew this into my work, so please do follow me on Instagram and Facebook and chat with me there.
