I live on the edge of the Wirral peninsula, a place bounded by water on 3 sides. When I walk down to the shore, it is like stepping into a different world the instant I put my foot on the sand. I want my work to capture a little piece of this feeling, to bring you a reminder of that peaceful other world along the shoreline.
How did I end up here? I’ve always been a maker, from my first Blue Peter inspired creations, progressing on to various creative hobbies. Then when (after a career in IT and raising a family) I had the opportunity to study applied arts, of course I leapt at the chance.
I didn’t expect to choose glass as my specialism, but there was something about the material that drew me in. Not so much the colour and transparency which are its most obvious qualities, but the possibilities of layering and creating depth and texture, and the fact that as a material it can be incredibly tactile.
And although I acknowledge that stroking a piece of glass is not most people’s first reaction, it is something I encourage!
So here I am, a few years on in my very own glass studio, still with a head full of ideas, working away creating fused glass wall art, decorative items and accessories all inspired by that beautiful coastal landscape.
