I have always had an interest in textiles, making my own clothes and developing my own style with Indian fabrics at a young age. Forage & Hearth began when I was not able to find a bag that I wanted to carry around every day, & one which was unique & reflected my personality so I made one. Family members and friends then asked me to make bags for them and my microbusiness was born. I came across a job lot of vintage Welsh tweeds and fell in love with these beautiful fabrics, not only in terms of their colours and textures but also with their history. Many were woven in the 1980s when I was still at school and yet here they were, some fifty years later, just crying out to be given a new life as a bag, quilt, journal cover etc. Since then I have collected pure wool vintage Welsh tweeds and up-cycled them into practical, high quality products. Nearly all of my tweeds have a known provenance, however, I do occasionally have a lapse when I am given a piece of tweed too beautiful not to be used.
Recently I have begun to work with cotton textiles woven and printed by artisans in Kutch, Gujarat, India. My father is from Gujarat and I grew up surrounded by beautiful hand block printed and mirrored textiles long before they became mainstream here. I toured Kutch in early 2026 and visited many superb artisans working with or associated with textiles. I came home with two suitcases filled with fabrics purchased directly from the makers and I now have the pleasure of using them along with my collection of Welsh tweeds to create unique items for the home and for personal use.
My inspirations are my life passion horses, and my environment surrounded as I am by beautiful Welsh countryside, tucked away in the foothills of the Cambrian Mountains.
I strive to make my products and working practices as planet friendly as possible. I only use biodegradable, sustainable natural fibres, e.g. cotton (organic), linen and wool, and I source local products where I can, e.g. new wooden buttons & handles are purchased from a woodsman in mid-Wales who hand carves local wood, & lavender is grown on a smallholding in Llangennith, Swansea.
